Day 33

Guy directing air into the balloon to get it going.

Guy, Larry, and Kurt watch as flames heat the air!

The fellows bravely climb into the balloon.

The fellows balloon, visit the Flinder's Medical Center, and travel to Melbourne. The fellows were all up at 4 am in order to pack a great deal of activities into an exciting day. The fellows gathered at the home of Michael Sandow (ABC fellow) at 5 a.m. in order to depart for ballooning in the Australian Country. The fellows helped assemble the balloon and then were off for an exciting ride over the countryside. A beautiful sunrise was in store as well as a unique view of the Australian wildlife in the Australian wine-making countryside. After a picnic breakfast, the fellows visited and had a tour of the Southcoup Winery, which makes many of the fine Australian wines and to whom Michael sends grapes from his vineyard.

The fellows then returned to Adelaide where they visited the Flinders Medical Center where they were hosted by Michael Sandow and Associate Professor Jegan Krishnan. Kurt, Regis, Guy, and Emil presented papers, while several interesting papers, highlighting the imaging and biomechanical research performed at the Flinders Hospital were presented by the staff.

The fellows then caught a late afternoon flight for Melbourne and were greeted at the airport by their local host, Mr. Richard De Steiger. The fellows checked into the historic Melbourne Club and then joined several of the local staff for a reception and dinner at the club.
