The fellows with Professor Galasko at dinner.

Visit to Manchester. The fellows were picked up by Professor Galasko at the hotel and were transported to Hope Hospital for a day of exciting academic exchange. Professor Galasko provided an interesting historical introduction to the city of Manchester and described the role that the 30 mile canal had in the industrialization of the area. The hospital system was developed by Sir Robert Jones in response to the need to treat injured workers. Professor Galasko is very involved in medical education in the UK and provided an excellent overview of physician training.

Professor Galasko presented his experience in the management of neuromuscular scoliosis. Larry presented his views and experience regarding anterior spine fusion for the treatment of scoliosis and had the opportunity to comment on a number of interesting cases. There is an active research program in bone tumors and prosthetic loosening at the University of Manchester and Regis presented some of his work in these areas and stimulated an excellent discussion. Guy and Emil commented on several pediatric and trauma cases that were presented to the fellows.

The fellows were treated with an excellent dinner with Professor Galasko and staff at the University Club at the University of Manchester. The setting, surrounded by tradition and books, was a perfect end to the day. Kurt gave an excellent toast on behalf of the fellows.
