The fellows visit Bristol and Bath: The fellows
participated in a second exciting day of academic exchange with the
faculty at Bristol. The session was moderated by John Hardy. The faculty
presented some interesting basic research papers in areas of fracture
healing, meniscal repair, and periprosthetic osteolysis. Four of the
fellows presented papers: Regis discussed research from his laboratory
on periprosthetic osteolysis; Guy presented his results on biomechanical
studies examining the fixation strength following the pinning of
pediatric elbow fractures; Larry described the classification and
management of scoliosis and the use of anterior surgical approaches; and
Kurt showed results of his research regarding injuries associated with
ACL injury. The fellows were the guests of Mr. Alistair Ross in Bath.
Alistair presented a stirring account of the history of Bath and
following lunch, the fellows went to Bath for a tour of the ancient
Roman Bath's and and Bath Abbey, constructed in 1499. Altogether, three
of the fellows fell asleep during the 45 minute drive and had to be
awoken on arrival to Bath, but a remarkable day was in store. The fellows
had a outstanding tour of ancient Bath and learned a great deal about
the history and culture of Roman Bath. A superb dinner was shared that
evening with Alistair and other members of the faculty at Priory Hotel.
The fellows returned later in the evening to the Berkeley Square Hotel.
